As we recruit two years in advance for our training contracts, you should start applying for a vacation scheme from the second year of a law degree or the third year of a non-law degree. This year, you can apply to join us on a Vacation Scheme from between September 20 2022 and 02 January 2023. You’ll need to apply online and we’ll ask you the usual questions about your skills and experiences. You don’t need to have any legal experience to join us on this scheme – what matters most to us is that you’re commercially minded and committed to embarking on a career in law.
The people who impress us the most will be invited to one of our assessment centres. Find out more about our assessment centres and application process here.
We screen all applications on a rolling basis and interviews will be held in early February. If your application is successful, you will be invited into our Edinburgh office for interview.
The vacation scheme interview usually consists of a brief presentation followed by an interview with a Human Resources team member and a Partner.

Your assessments will consist of a variety of different exercises to assess your performance in a range of situations which may include a group scenario, written exercise and interview. The exercises are timed, which means you are being assessed in your capacity to work under pressure, work in a team, manage your time, and think on your feet and use your analytical skills under pressure.
No preparation is needed in advance, but we will be looking to assess the following across the exercises:
- Communication skills
- Commercial Awareness
