We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. It is evident that climate change is one of the most significant challenges of our time.
We are fully committed to:
Our Global Environmental & Sustainability Policy outlines our approach to minimising our impact and is this is reviewed annually to ensure we maintain our commitment to meeting our sustainability goals against the background of the rapidly evolving landscape.
We have adopted calendar year 2019 as our baseline year from which to measure emissions reduction progress (being our last full year of normal operations prior to the impact of the COVID19 pandemic).
Our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions footprint for 2019 totals some 94,698 tCO2e which breaks down in to:
Our Management Board, in response, approved in Summer of 2022, the adoption of a highly ambitious and highly transparent, net zero emissions strategy.
Our strategy aims to:
> prevent loss of our existing revenue streams through non-compliance with supply chain protocols,
> present significant opportunities for new work streams given the increase of climate related advice and litigation,
> enhance reputationally, our market leading climate change risk and advisory practices, and
> assist with attraction and retention of talent, supporting our evolving Employee Value Proposition.
The SBTi have validated and approved our near-term reduction target of 80% in our scope 1 & scope 2 emissions and a 50% target reduction in our scope 3 emissions by 2030 as being in line with a 1.5 degrees trajectory.
The SBTi have commended our ambitious target, currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process.
This represents an overall near-term emissions reduction target of over 50% by 2030.
We expect to submit our SBTi aligned long-term target in 2023 which will become the target to achieve net zero emissions on or before 2040.
We are partnered with specialist environmental consultancy, Carbon Intelligence, now an Accenture Company, who have assisted us with the development of credible and authentic science-based emissions targets as noted above, together with a clearly defined plan, and roadmap, to confidently deliver upon these targets.
